Question for the Mexican,Puerto Rican and Panamanian fans here!?

Guys i have big respect for your fighters specially some big names like Roberto Duran,Julio cesar Chavez,Ricardo Lopez,Wilfredo Benitez etc etc but we need to debate on some things fellas!
I personally believe that Professional Boxing of 20th century is a big bad joke and i will explain my self and if you want we can debate with arguments and points and i admit if someone brings so many points which will be more valid than mine i will give best answer and admit my mistakes and wrong impressions!

I strongly believe that if Panama ,PR and Mexico were near Australia or near Iceland and not in the borders with USA which gave birth to Professional Boxing of 20th century or WWE and rest popular sports of Americas (MLB,NFL,NHL) you would have not produce more than 20 champions all 3 together combined!Still phenomenal fighters like the ones i mentioned at the beginning would excel no matter what, but all these champions specially Mexico has produce it's a delusional number!
I do not believe in stereotypes guys sorry,i mean FULL RESPECT AND CREDIT to what Mexican fighters have achieve but the number of champions you have in boxing or tiny lil Puerto Rico is just a result living one breathe away from USA and let's be fair during the whole 20th century Professional boxing (not boxing) was as American as MLB,WWE or NFL is with few exceptions now and there!

My points and arguments
1)Puerto Rico has produce more champions than Russia or Ukraine or Cuba and Puerto Rico has only 6 medals in history of Olympic Boxing and never a gold medal,so Puerto Rico has produce better boxers than these 3 countries?lol ok,if you wanna believe that cool with me!

2)Mexico has produce over 150 Pro champions but has only 12 medals in the Olympic boxing,i mean guys something is wrong here obviously, something is really wrong!I mean if Mexicans could excel in Professional level so greatly, then they should win Olympic medals like a fat kid eating donuts,it should be as natural as Jamaicans with sprints,Mexico send in every Olympics the most boxers after USA and Russia but fail, lately that countries like Armenia,Kazakstan, South Africa,Thailand Hungary,South Korea which have win many medals in low divisions, turning Professionals low divisions champions .....................once used to be 95% Mexicans, now?

3)For Panama and Puerto Rico i mean no offense Mexico as well i mean i just do not know how to explain athletically at Olympics or huge international sports as football/soccer,tennis,basketball,cricket-rugby etc etc no offense guys but you do not exist nowhere in the sports map of the world i mean truly no offense but Puerto Rico has in NBA more players than Greece or Spain, does that mean that Ricans are better players than Greeks and Spaniards in basketball?I mean we butchered Puerto Rico in last Olympics with 31 points or so ,so see how privilleged you have been in Professional Boxing which is 95% staged show and 5 % reality?I mean i just can't understand how tiny countries with no athletic achievements in sports like Puerto Rico,Panama and even Mexico no offense i repeat but in the world sports guys ummmmm Mexico how many medals at Olympics has or how many World cups in football or Rugby? But all 3 countries have produce more champions than "Empires of sports" as Germany,Russia,Cuba,Italy etc etc?
Something must be wrong there i think!
Your thoughts?Do you think i am being unfair?

PS
A good example Mexico is 10 times bigger than Greece in Population and Mexico sends more athletes than Greece at Olympics but Mexico has 55 medals and Greece 118,so Mexico or Puerto Rico can produce prime Boxers and athletes in NFL but Greece or Italia can't?:)You see what i am saying, truth seems to be very twisted about American Professional sports!

  1. The Philippines is in that same situation. Not a single Olympic gold medal. We’ve had champions in some world amateur boxing contests, but not a single gold in the Olympics. Personally I think its the hard life here. Guys like Pacquiao did not have the luxury of dilly dalying in amateur bouts. He needed to make money to support himself and Aling Dionisia even from a young age. In fact at that time Pacquiao did not even impress and people had no idea what he would be in the future, because apparently he was a very bad boxer with no technical skills. This is according to the recent Time Magazine article. In other words, he had no proper training whatsoever.

The closest we had to a boxing gold Medal was Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco, who lost to a fighter from Bulgaria. I was hoping he’d try again, but after that lost, he became a comedian in TV, which tells me that its not a boxers life that he wanted.

  2. With regards to this whole rant, no offense, by your estimation CANADA should have TONS of WORLD BOXING CHAMPIONS because of its close proximity to the US?? Or why doesn’t Puerto Rico, Panama or Mexico have NHL Players flooding the league with WORLD-CLASS HOCKEY PLAYERS ?? Your logic is flawed. But as we can see the idea that being in close proxomity to the US gives PR, Mexico and Panama an advantage is wanting. What about the Virgin Islands or Venezuela ? How many WORLD CHAMPIONS have they produced compared to PR or Mexico in Boxing? Aren’t they just as close as these other nations you named?

Comparing Amateur boxing with professional boxing is flawed as well. Cubans and the Ukraine might very well have more Gold Medal Olympic Champions but this does not translate to a WORLD Champion Boxer.

Take a look at this list of OLYMPIC WORLD CHAMPIONS @ Welterweight:
    1968 Manfred Wolke, East Germany
    1972 Emilio Correa, Cuba
    1976 Jochen Bachfeld, East Germany
    1980 Andres Aldama, Cuba
    1984 Mark Breland, USA
    1988 Robert Wangila, Kenya
    1992 Michael Carruth, Ireland
    1996 Oleg Saitov, Russia
    2000 Oleg Saitov, Russia
    2004 Bakhtiyar Artayev, Kazakhstan

I could have used other weight classes but some had too many Cubans, lol, and I couldn’t compare Pro careers so I was stuck with this one.

Only name worth mentioning as a WORLD PROFESSIONAL boxing champion is Mark Breland who was starched by Aaron Davis for the Middleweight Title, Aaron who? and Jorge Vaca ?? Two fighters, one who did win a golden gloves championship in NY but didn’t go any farther and Jorge Vaca who was a NOBODY in the amateurs.

Great Amateur careers, for that matter Gold Medals in the Olympics(YAWN), do not translate to World Professional Boxers. Pro Boxing is another animal! It’s not a game of tag and hoping to land and touch with the white portion of your glove! No head gear to protect you and a full 12 rounds !! Ok this became a rant but you get my drift.

  3. You make some good points i’m not gonna hate, but dude don’t waste so much time and energy for stuff like that, these kind of issues don’t concern me .
Hey Frankly, dude basically i’m answering this question because of you, i am half Venezuelan dude and i follow Venezuelan boxers,so you’re saying that Venezuela doesn’t have any champions, are you on crack?Only for now Venezuela has many champions without counting all the champs we’ve had during the years, currently we got Miguel Acosta, Nehomar CermeƱo and Edwin Valero , are you serious dude that Venezuela got no champs?

  4. Regarding Mexico, out of those 150 pro champions how many actually tried out for the olympics? Seems like a very relevant question doesn’t it.
